Lots of celestron and orion products can ship to sg.
Based on past experience, such glitch get fixed quite fast within 2 days or a few weeks. Enjoy while it last.

As usual for better exchange rate, select bill in US dollars not automatic convert to SG dollars.

Any issue, go to the customer support livechat after 11pm Singapore time because the South African shift are more willing to settle the case in customer's favor.

Prices go up and down at amazon automatically , if the price is higher than other websites, it will come down.

thanks for the tip.

for newbie, what reasonable telescope would be recommended?

i would most likely use it to view the moon and planets. even though i would like to see much deeper into space, for example the nebula, i am limited by the environment and schedule.

I have no idea which size is the minimum suitable as I don't actively hunt and observe nebula.

If anybody doesn't understand this yet, Amazon are known for the most friendly shipping cost compared to usps/fedex/ups/dhl/comgateway/borderlinx/vpost when buying from other astronomy sites in USA.
Free international shipping only applies to Items with packaging within 18 inches and 20 lbs with all qualified items above US 125 in a single cart.

Other than Celestron and Orion, there are a small selection of Meade products. Watchout for the 5000 series UWA eyepieces as they are the new inferior batch supplied by different factory.

The most talked about bino in this forum .......USD 163 to SGD 225... local 288 (parisilk website)

"Fulfilled by amazon" is 3rd party merchant. They list their product on the website and take advantage of amazon's logistics network.

Amazon is only responsible for "sold by amazon.com"
The free global shipping excludes 3rd party merchants. 3rd party merchant purchases don't activate the automatic GST collection system.
Amazon bills credit card just before they ship, the user can self cancel the order with a few mouseclicks without penalty before the parcel is shipped out.

Above mentioned Nikon AE 10x50 dropped to US $139 = equivalent to SGD $200

Found this lower end 10x50 at good price friendly to beginners = equivalent to SGD $83.50
packed with features that you have to pay triple to get locally
the model is not popular , can't find any review online , buy at your own risk

3 choices for beginners with $100 or less budget

For out of stock items, 3rd party merchants may appear as the priority listing on the product page.
Browse the right side there will be 3 sellers to choose , select "sold by amazon.com"

Not bad at USD 554 = 817 sing dollars inclusive of USA-SG shipping + GST
Narrows the gap between the $500~ powerseeker/astromasters
As long the user can accommodate the storage and portability issues

Other big items such as sky-watcher dob and nexstar 6se shot up in shipping cost over the past few months .... so I would not expect this orion dob shipping cost to stay constant in 2016

Remember to select "bill in US dollars" at checkout , don't let amazon auto convert to sing dollars which is 3% higher

The above mentioned 8" dob had a slight price drop (US17) yesterday
coupled with the recent dip in US dollars

USD 535.54 x 1.36 exchange rate
+3% by mastercard/visa/your card issuing bank
= 750 singapore dollars

*edit*
price went back to normal 390 USD 3hours after I posted on Saturday morning
dropped back down on Tuesday night
