How to calculate F number of a webcam?

Post by chrisyeo »

Hi,

Does anyone know how to calculate the F number of a webcam?

For example, if my scope is F12.5, and I image with a toucam, what is the resultant F number?

Thanks!

doesn't change. wat u would be more interested in is how much larger the image becomes. take the area of the film/area of webcam image sensor. so if u have maybe a 1cm x 1cm sensor, u will get an image maybe ~2.5x larger.

How does the sensor size relate to the image size?

My Creative webcam sensor is very small.. something like 5x7mm. I get an image that is roughly equivalent to the view through a 2mm eyepiece.. I'm trying to figure out what magnification my webcam/scope combination gives me.

hmm...sqrt(5^2+7^2)=8.6mm , that is the size diagonally. divide focal length by the diagonal size, 2200/8.6=256x, that should be ur rough magnification. wat scope and wat focal length?

try 1250mm/8.6mm = 145x
