Huygen On Titan's Surface and beaming back data!

Post by Airconvent »

Latest update from space.com is the space craft have landed on the surface but no data available yet as to whether it is floating or on solid ground as the data need to be slowly transmitted back to the Cassini space probe in orbit for storage and re-transmission back to earth.

cool, i wait for the official stuff from ESA, preliminary pics rocks, always cause excitment :)

i hate it when this happens, the people there are busy over press conference and recieving info that no one is updating the sites

Okay, they did update... those pictures are amazing....
too bad it isnt colored. they gotta add the colors artificially back here.

Another amazing day for Astronomers.
The surface looks like a cross between Venus and Mars..
The report indicated there was a coastline which suggest the theory that Titan has a "lubricant" ocean may be true...
Looking forward to more info and pics coming in. I read Huygen took over 350 photos...

as many as they can take. they had to take birds-eye-view pictures as the proble descended as well as take angle shots at the horizon. after it landed, they also took shots all round. I think it would be several days before the elation dies down at Nasa and they start to extract the rest of the images.
The probe was designed to last 2-3 hrs on the surface but now expected to last 7 hours so I guess there may be more pics.
