Hi, will have a half day free in Tokyo on Wednesday and was wondering if anyone knew any good astronomy shops here ? You know, similar to OPT, Anacortes, etc in the US (but NOT like Astro Scientific in Singapore ).
Thanks for any info !

I worked in my Tokyo office last year for 2 weeks but couldn't find any astro shops while i was there, maybe because I only searched after office hours :-(
Btw, the most popular astro shop in japan is kokusai kohki (www.kkohki.com), but they're based in Kyoto.

Hi,
I have been to the KYOEI shop in Akihabara . It is walking distance from Akihabara station. It is a small shop , the guy speaks English and is quite helpful and reasonable. He has mainly Meade and Vixen items.
There is one supermarket opposite Chiba station, and it has few scopes on sale , but I have not been there.
The largest one is in Osaka.

Hi Stuart, thanks for the very informative reply! I have been pouring over some of the Japanese websites trying to guess what they have available but it does look like I will pay Starbase a visit. My trip happens only in Dec; will PM you for Yamamoto-San's email if I really decide to purchase something. Thanks!

Off topic : The GF1 looks cool except they dropped the Mega OIS which makes no sense. But the m43 is gaining steam though. Even Pentax is rumoured to be exploring this format. The EP-1 looks really retro but i find it too bulky for its target purpose. The GF1 looks nicer though but you can't beat the K-x here. More features at a lower price and in your colour! BTW, if anyone wants to contine, I suggest you create a new thread under coffee corner so that poor CC can focus on buying the entire range of Pentax eyepieces and refractors.croys wrote:The K-x is cool. I'd be tempted by the G1 or GF-1 if I didn't already have the E-P1. More so if they had sensor IS. By Dec the rumoured Fuji EXR-based m4/3rds camera might be out... and the EP-2 should be announced at the end of this month. Lots of cool stuff coming up!
