full day solar ob- damage to scope?

Post by hlyf »

hi all,
my school is having our open house next week, and we'll be having a full day solar ob session for those pp coming to visit..
so.. just wondering, will anything happen to your telescope if you leave it in the sun for the whole day? with solar filters on la.. but will there be overheating of the scope or anything with the optics or anything?
worried larh.. if anything happens teacher in charge will be after me :?
thanks!

A full aperture filter will be OK, just remember to cool the scope in intervals.

C8 and maksutov..
2 scopes, we could bring one in for cooling and leave the other outside... hmm what if we like get some members to stand there and fan it :D or just use an umbrella to shade it when we're not having any visitors..

Nice hannah. Ya know something? I'm NJC here. We're having a solar ob on our openday too... So I thought you were also NJCian... cos apparently, the description fits! Girl, astro in school, openday next week. Full day solar ob. With C8 and maksutov. And same thing, if our telescopes are destroyed then the teacher-in-charge would more than just ham-tam me... Just what we had in mind too... Strange how coincidental it could be...
