New image: M86,84 and more than 20 more galaxies

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

New image: M86,84 and more than 20 more galaxies

Post by tanguan2001 »

All,

Showing how effective digital techniques are in cutting through light pollution - galaxies in the Virgo cluster imaged from Singapore. I count 28 galaxies here, down to mag 19.

It was one of those fantastically transparent nights before the haze started.

Thanks, I think the depth of the image has to do as well with autoguiding. That is getting better - the stars are more round now (although still room for improvement). If a faint object is focussed on to just a few pixels throughout, it will be recorded better.

Rich,

Easy. Just do Image, Invert in Photoshop. Then some more curve stretching to bring out the fuzzies. This way all the imperfections and noise come out as well!

Koh,

No magic lah! Just set up, focus, align, find object, find guidestar, test autoguiding, set a series of exposures - then relax and have a beer...

I think that's exactly it. Each of those steps, like set up, even focus, is causing me lots of grief ! So I'm sure there's a lot newbies like me can learn ! :D

ok, let's start with focusing. tg, are you using any external device (e.g. stilleto) to get an accurate focus?
