New Comets to Watch

Post by Airconvent »

With all the social distancing going on, the best way to enjoy yourself is to look up the night sky and right now, there is a comet with potential to grow brighter. In ancient times, a comet appearing during a crisis like the Covid19 may as well be designated a harbinger of worse things to come but these days, it's a rare treat for astronomers...assuming it brightens up !

Another comet to watch, Comet Neowise. Due West NW on 22 Jul for the best view in the evening at an elevation of around 30deg. But likely challenging as towards build up Malaysia.

Has anyone sighted Comet Neowise in Singapore? My attempt yesterday evening was met with thick black clouds at the horizon!

Some did. Managed to catch it between the clouds. I tried but was not successful.

They are really lucky. For me, another fruitless attempt this evening...

Still have a few days to try. It will get higher and easier to see but also dimmer. :)
