Any more maps or charts or brochures to print? Just three documents only?

No worries!

Tiong Bahru Garden is a public park.... and if others can jog, walk their dogs, hang their birdcages out to let the birds sing, do Taijiquan or Qigong there, I don't see anything wrong in star-gazing there too.

Amateur astronomy is a perfectly healthy hobby just like any other common recreational activities. We are certainly not there to disrupt public peace... in fact, we can add variety to the existing recreational activities!

As long as we do not actively hand pamplets to the public or have a speech corner or something like that, we should be safe. Just do not entice or antagonise anyone and we will be clear of trouble too.

In case we are not allowed to do star-gazing in the public park for one reason or another, the school field next to Gan Eng Seng Secondary is about 2 minutes walk away (on the west side of the same park, nearer to Redhill MRT Station). It is open to public after school hours.

I am really puzzled by all these fear about being mis-construed as illegal gathering by the police. Sometimes the police will drop by to find out what we are doing but they are always friendly and keen to find out more after we explain our activities to them. So please relax ya all... :)

i think the police will not bother a bunch of star gazers especially with all the telescopes all over the place in the park. They will probably also try to peer into it and figure out something.

Maybe the Traffic Police will award us a contract to help them take telephotos of errant drivers... hahaha

Kat,

Sorry. Don't know why it doesn't load when you click on it. Please click on 'options' and then 'download' and you will get the file. Thanks!

Don't worry about the police. They won't bother about noise/noise complains till 10:30pm.

It will only be an illegal gathering if the group has an intention to do something illegal and/or cannot prove otherwise. In our case we can.

The only concern would be if members of public (MOP) feel threatened/inconvenienced in any way and lodge a complaint. Eg. Taking up space along the walkway/cycle tracks and obstructing movements of other pedestrians, pointing scopes too close to HDB blocks, litter or mis-use of public property (blocking out lights at the source, standing on tables/chairs) etc.

Of course, public speaking of any kind should be avoided. :)

Other than that, like what some of the others have said, the Police will probably just drop by for a look and leave with a smile. :)

Maybe we need Jeremy to help look after our scopes and talk to the police. :)

For those who are afraid of meeting the police, you can bring a "grab-and-run" scope, instead of a 'grab-and-go'! :P
