Why is your Televue Plossl made in Japan?

Most of TV eyepieces (and barlows, etc) are either made in Japan (preferrable by most ppl) or Taiwan. Surprised?

Yes, I am!! I thought made in USA! Does manufacturing in Japan reduce cost? Taiwan, possibly, but in Japan?! hmm... If TV products are bought in Japan, do we have the benefit of lower prices?

Most eyepieces are either made in Japan, Taiwan and China. The mechanical quality tend to be that Japan is better than Taiwan and then China. TV eyepieces are tested in USA but made either in Japan or Taiwan. The Taiwan made TVs are good too but most people think that Japan is better (biases I guess). I would say they are very close in quality. For TV, the bigger eyepieces (more glass) ones are made in Taiwan as to reduce cost I think. The smaller sized eyepieces tend to be made in Japan due to smaller size and requirement of higher tolerance etc and also less glass so not necessary to be made in Taiwan.
