Next Star Gazing Session

Alright, this is for sharing of your observation experience. Or, if you are arranging gatherings, star-gazing expeditions or just want some company to go observing together, you can shout it out here.

The Sun is a star! My P5 pupils are seeing more blur-stars too because a wandering star is suddenly taken off the list (now that Pluto is merely Mickey Mouse's faithful canine companion).

Will join you people to enjoy the myriad of stars in Mersing or other new favourite spots IF there is life after school :mrgreen: I'm always counting my lucky stars!

Actually, Mersing has more stellar offers... and no street lamps to disturb too. Quick, organise one soon! :mrgreen: Hmmm... how to make someone divorce his scopes and marry a real-life fairy? ;) (no offence intended, just a friendly teasing of our Singastro celebrity)

Wow, this thread not only rekindled my affinity for sapphires (Albireo) & diamond (Vega) :wink: , it also brings back fond memories of those school days when me and my friends competed with each other to see who memorized most Tang poems. Any more star related poems there?

Here is the original poem of the well-known nursery rhyme:-

"The Star" was first published in 1806 in "Rhymes for the Nursery" by 2 sisters, Ann Taylor (1782-1866) and Jane Taylor (1783-1824).

The music for the nursery rhyme was taken from a 1761 French folksong, "Ah! Vous dirai-je, Maman", and adapted by the then youthful Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in a piano variation (K.265/K.300e)

Ce qui cause mon tourment?

Meaning of the words

Oh my, what a beautiful composition:) i never knew "twinkle,twinkle little star" had more than 1 verse :) Shall try to remember them all :)

Hmm, it seems like we go from an arrangement for an ob to feedback of the ob, to knowing who were in the ob, then to chinese folktales/Tang poet, to someone looking for a partner, to nursery rhyme....

So, when and where is the next ob?

Oops, over-enthusiasm of a fun-loving astronomy group.

But it is exactly what draws people to Singastro... there is something astronomy-related for everyone to learn while having a little bit of friendly banter. Not everyone here is into rocket science, but most of us are inspired by the heavens enough to be part of a wonderful gathering of friends (people of all ages and astronomy knowledge levels are welcomed... this is not an elite scholastic members-only organisation).

I see this forum as one serving public education in astronomy and arousing interest in astronomy through various activities at different levels (not just through obs alone). I, for one, particularly enjoyed our public awareness activity at Tiong Bahru Gardens not long ago. Very recently, I mentioned to some of the members here that this informal group has enormous potential. I hope that we shall not just reach out for the stars for ourselves but also reach out to the general public regarding this very healthy hobby.

OK, enough off-topic ramblings... let's stop getting frivolous and be serious!

There is one ob coming up soon. Registration is closed, but if there are drivers with own transport, I guess they may consider adding more people. Mersing is a favourite spot for many of the celestial observers here. See this thread:-
