Hi Coach,

Congrats on getting a scope at a good price. I was at Astro Scientific today and I saw the 114 (I think it was the short tube version) with a receipt for the customer showing about S$1200.

While I was there, I also saw the new EQ4 mounts upgraded with the new tubular steel legs and GOTO.....very nice. Certainly looked more sturdy and stable now.

thanks Kayheem!

Well, the scope is assembled and awaiting a "dip in the deep end"

It appears it had a problem with the declination mechanism but managed to fix it by taking it apart and replacing the spring, smooth as ever now! The spring was bent so the pin would no longer fit in the opening of the bolt which houses the pin and spring...happy!

I know, I saw the 114 at Astro for $1200 also....as with most prices for telescopes.....steep, very steep. Almost fell out of my chair when I heard what a ETX costs here....

Cheers!

Coach

there's always Cheng Sing's $600 80mm skywatcher refractor...
unless you are prepared to wait long long, bargains such as the $200 Newtonian that coach bought are few and far between. The scope is being sold WELL below market rate, so don't be like the farmer waiting under the tree for a rabbit to kill itself there (aesop fable...remember? )!
