Why not get WX's C5? It's not a Mak, but it's a 5" scope and equally capable and portable on all fronts.

Yup agreed as WX's C5 he is selling is ok priced and rather new. It is much cheaper than the 600 plus US dollars for a new C5 OTA. A C5 is small and can be put in a small sports bag.

Yup, get the C5. It's a more versatile scope than the chinese Maks (last time I check, the etx or starmax can not take 2" eyepieces).

the C5 looks good, but the thought of spending another 3-400 on a tripod and tripod head irks me...

besides the manfrotto 410, what other manfrotto heads can do the job decently yet doesn't cost as much as the 410?

Microstar basic would be a good (if not better) option.

Yes the microstar is much better. I mount my C5 on the microstar deluxe. If comparing C5 with the 90mm Mak, the C5 has better light gathering and resolving power plus it allows many accessories.

hi guys, i've done a quick calculation if i were to get weixing's c5...

in total i would have to spend roughly 1200SGD on the entire setup. that's roughly 400 more than if i were to take my chances and wait for fizzy123 to finish his exams in a few weeks time and get his 127mm mak with eq3-2. the other option is river's nexstar 4, which is considerably cheaper but i would prefer something that isn't goto as i would like to do some terrestrial viewing without having to use the goto motors as that would require charging batteries often.
