Better attempt on M41 & M42

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Better attempt on M41 & M42

Post by weixing »

Hi,
Tonight my mount suddenly work better... So I decided to re-take some images on the M42 Nebulae, the M41 Open Cluster, M45 Open Cluster and the NGC2244 Open Cluster. The M45 Open Cluster and the NGC2244 Open Cluster images are not very good. Wonder if the image will be better if no full moon.

I manage to take some short exposure and a few long exposure. I found out that unlike planets, the long exposure Nebulae and Open Cluster is better than stacking of short exposure. Anyway, below are my setting for the two images.

ohmygoodness.. for the equipment those pics are jawdroppingly good man.. is that a single 20 sec image or a stack of some of them? did you try stacking more but with shorter exposure time? now i'm damn jealous.. must try also.. haha no just kidding, but i gotta try it too..
and again, great pics!

Hi,
I also try taking a couple of 8s exposure for stacking, but result isn't as good as single long exposure image. I think DSO require longer exposure for every image use for stacking. May be every image for stacking require at least 30s exposure.

Have a nice day.
