What are the names of the brightest stars in sg.. I know VinSnr taught me before but I forgot :oops:
I went to the SingAstro wiki site and it showed me 'stub'

Singapore being positioned along the equator can see all the bright stars. Sirius, Canopus, etc...however, it cannot see Polaris (North Star) but that star is not the brightest star. Places in northern latitudes like in USA can see the North Star.

A "Stub" is an article that is in need of expansion.

SingastroWiki is a website that is, like wikipedia, editable by anybody and always under construction. So, if there are any pages that are stubs or listed 'under construction', please help to add to them!

The brightest stars in the sky are the same stars that are brightest in Singapore. You can search them up on the net. I've added two links to the wiki page.

Some of us saw Polaris at the highest point in Pulau Ubin back in 1987, it was verified by comparing the surrounding star field with the Sky Atlas 2000. At the same time there, we were also among the first amatuer astronomers in S'pore to observe the supernova 1987a.

From Singapore, being near the equator, we are fortunate to be able to see all of the 25 brightest stars in the sky.

The following is a list of these stars taken from the website of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, LONDON.

As can be seen from the celestial coordinates of these stars (RA Dec), the 25 brightest stars are found between Declination -62 degrees (Acrux) at the southernmost point, to Declination +45 degrees (Capella) at the northernmost point.

For us, we can easily see celetial objects from about declination -70 degrees (south) to about +70 degrees (north). This is unlike northern or southern latitudes where not all objects can be seen, e.g. from London, where stars further south than about -20 degrees can't be seen well, and those further south than -39 degrees cannot be seen at all (90 degrees minus 51 degrees latitude of London = -39 degrees co-latitude) .

Further, the stars listed below are all brighter than magnitude 2.0, so are easily seen from Singapore at various times of the year with the naked eye.
