manual guiding is fine as long as one does it at managable imaging focal lengths like that of 500-800mm. Personally, i have only tried guiding at 300X to image up to 910mm. Beyond that, pray for steady conditions. Your mount must not have clean and consistent gears as well, otherwise you will guide frequently. The GP(D) mounts are fine platforms for this respect.

Well it's a start for me to feel how difficult it is. web cam guiding is in the pipeline but probably not so soon.

long duration manual guiding is do..able, but get yourself into a comfortable position is vital. My personal longest visual guiding spans almost 2 hours at 2-3 minutes exposures. An observing chair is a must and eyepatch will help to relief eye fatigue. At times i would also alternate my eyes.
