Crux from Singapore

Post by SkyRanger »

I will be visiting with friends on Pasir Panjang the last two weeks of April. I have never seen the Southern Cross. Will it be possible for me to see it or will city lights drown it out?

Thanks!

Hey!

Crux can indeed be viewed from Singapore. In fact, I just saw it last night. However, I saw it in the east of Singapore which is further away from the city lights than Pasir Panjang. I still think it is visible from Pasir Panjang though.

Good luck!

Yes. Crux is an easy object here. :)

Crux last night. Was taken using an Olympus EM5 from Pasir Ris around 4.30am in the morning.

Crux last night. Some star trailing as I did not use a star tracker. Was a rough capture but still managed to get Jewel Box :)

Thanks for the encouraging news! I may never be so far south again, and Crux is something I have always hoped to see.

I will be determined to see it. Hopefully we will have some clear nights the last two weeks of April!
