M51 Whirlpool Galaxy

Post by rss1234 »

Attempted M51 with my 6" Newtonian, it is not very well-suited for imaging due to its 1.25" focuser that does not support coma correctors. However, I am still pleased with its performance.

Low integration time for broadband data, about 2 hours. L-extreme was used to isolate Ha regions and was used to boost emission areas. (about 5 hours)

Images acquired in NINA, processed in Pixinsight.

Nice shot! The key central part looks free of coma aberration.
5+2 hours of imaging is a considerable feat from Sg. Admire.
