This is my first post in the forum.
I am considering built up a refractor system based on it since currently an WO offer is going on. I would like some feedback on it from members on this forum. And if possible, please recommend some other components such as mount/EPs/Finder/disgonal for the system.

For visual, then FLT is a really good scope, you can get very good views of planets. But since it is 4 inch only, you will hardly be able to see more than planets and bright clusters.

If you want to get the most out of visual, the best option would be to get a LARGE Dobsonian, as large as you can carry. Aperture is the dominant factor on how dim you can see and how much you can resolve.

A nice small refractor can used for overseas trips or spur-of the moment observation.

Just my own opinion.

Ya I agree with Meng Lee. For visual, a 5" or larger SCT or reflector/dobsonian will give more viewing pleasure and is cheaper too.

If doing visual only, you need aperture! Since your are looking at FLT-110 + EQ mount, I assume you have quite a high budget and may be able to transport some heavy stuff easily. Below is one visual option you can consider: Teleport 10" F5.

IMHO, this may be is the most portable and compact 10" dob out there... the view will blow the FLT-110 to outer space! The good news is someone in Singapore is selling one at the price similar to a FLT-110 + EQ Mount. Am I evil?? hee hee hee

Thanks for all reply. Actually I intend to use Flt-110 for overseas trips. Is it too big/heavy for that purpose? Otherwise I have to consider a smaller refractor. I will do some search on Teleport 10" anyway.

Hmmm, FLT 110 scope + case = 11.85kg, if you find this light, then its ok. Remember to include the weight of a mount and eyepieces and accessories.

The width of the case is 82cm, is it still within airline carry-on size? I am not too sure about that. I cannot imagine checking-in FLT 110.

If portability is the key, and since you need to use it overseas, you may like to put the Takahashi FSQ106ED into consideration. It is short and definitely airline portable. It will offer very sharp contrasty views (i had the older one before), and a superb imaging astrograph as well. It is just about the best versatile 4-incher out there now, period. For one on a lighter budget, you may also consider the Stellarvue and Borg offerings.

Oh... OK if travel oversea by car, but if by Jet... then forget about the Teleport 10". A 8" SCT (if you are not a wide field person) or the WO Megrez 110 Doublet ED may be a more practical choice... not that heavy and not that expensive.
