Theory of loop quantum gravity??

Post by ALPiNe »

Hi!
Just being curious here.. How might the radiation from distant cosmic explosions called gamma-ray bursts provide a way to test whether the theory of loop quantum gravity is correct?

must needs pour into mine eye.
Or i shall with bent and turned,
fall me down, distraught..To die.

Here are two links that talk a little about experimental tests of LQG through detecting gamma ray bursts.

Hi!
Thanks gchew for your help!! :D

While I do understand that the concept of redshift may be used to test LCQ theory,I came across this through one of the recommended websites,"As photons pass through the vacuum, they deform and excite these fluctuations and this, in turn, reduces the photon's velocity. The higher the energy of the photon, the greater the effect."

I am not sure why this is the case.Could you enlighten me on this? :? Thanks. :)

Cheers,

Hi, let me just try to explain. But I may be wrong so this is not the bible!

In quantum theory, it is assumed that particle-antiparticle pairs are actually created over time, but exists also only for very short time. However, in this theory presented, the photon that passes through the vacuum would increase the number of particle-antiparticle pairs coming out in a given time. Thus fluctuations are increased. Also, as the photon hits such particles/antiparticles, it gives them a bit of energy, thus it's velocity decreases. The higher the energy of the photon, the more energy is passed. Hope this helps.
