Hi Liza

First and foremost, welcome to Singastro!

It is definitely fine to have a bino for starters, and you do not need a telescope to join obs session, all you need is the passion for it.

I believe other experienced astronomers in this forum will fill you in with details of sessions and any doubts you may have pertaining to astronomy.

Do have a nice time here!

Welcome Liza, I own a pair of 8x42 binoculars as well. I'd recommend that you get yourself a planisphere and a compass right now, so you can start learning the night sky by yourself. I started in August, and I've picked up quite a bit with the planisphere. Once you are more familiar with the sky, download and install stellarium for more detailed information on the stars. I'm currently busy with my Os, but it'll be over in another 2 week or so. After that, I might plan a session small bino observation session for amatuers. (:

I personally go out to the Buangkok MRT field at times to stargaze alone, since it's only 10 minutes from my house. But the location isn't that dark, so I might be scouting Punggol areas for possible observation grounds. At this time of the year, there's probably nothing interesting in the South, so I wouldn't plan the session at ECP. Oh and for the planisphere, remember we are in the Northern Hemisphere, so get the correct version. ^_^

Hi,
Welcome to SingAstro!

A 8x42 bino had a wide field of view make it easy to use and very useful in learning the sky. Also, it's light, so it's convenience to bring to darker site and you'll use it more often.

Happy obbing and have a nice day.

Yea, I'm using a 8x42 and it really suits my needs. Drop by down tampines one of these days during the weekends if you wanna ob through Wei Xing's scope lol. but it is totally weather dependent and of course the scope owner's mood. =D
