Hi guys,
It's been a long time since I have posted here

I am a lurker in this forums and happily content on just reading all your great posts
However, I have come across the
Galileoscope being advertised on the IYA 2009 website and I was just wondering on what your thoughts are? You see I still have to buy my first telescope (my Starblast... err- my
would be Starblast is put on hold on account of my first child being born

).
I just think that what they(IYA) are doing is so noble (I applaud them for that) that even if I can't use the Galileoscope here in Singapore (not too sure about this), I am still going to buy one, or two, just to support them and show my appreciation on what they are doing.
Well, just my two cents... enjoy the rest of your day!

i was actually thinking of getting one too. i think it's good (and cheap enough) as a starter scope to gauge your interest.

That's cheap! If you are getting this scope for the classic feeling, that would be good. But if you're thinking of using it for obs, don't bother. Remember galileo's scope may have poor optics by today's standards but his skies are also better than Mersing ! I am tempted to get one for the fun of it....

i got it from the science center shop...
it has a wooden base... looks more like a toy than a serious telescope...

It looks cute to me. What do you mean the mount is fixed? You mean it can't be rotated in azimuth or do you mean the OTA cannot be removed from the forkarm? But fren, its only $149. That's a lot of scope for this price...
BTW, now we all know why there are rain clouds these past few days !
