Hello there,

It has always been my dream to own a telescope and gaze into the universe, but out of fear that my passion would burn out quickly, i chose not to pursue it.

However, I saw this Galileoscope selling for $59 at astrobargains.com. I thought maybe it would be good if I just got one of these and give it a shot first.
Have you guys tried it? Is it any good?

Thanks alot!

Its a "for fun" scope. I intend to get one myself.
You can't expect to do serious work with a 50mm refractor in Singapore polluted skies but it should be good for moon viewing, the main planets and perhaps some brighter DSOs. You will need a tripod too.

Ok thanks! What cheap tripod do you recommend?

your best bet for a cheap tripod is to camp forums like Clubsnap, and other local photography forums.

That said, you might want to seriously consider picking up a pair of binoculars to start with, instead of the Gallileoscope, though it does look like a fun toy.
Even if you decide astronomy is not for you, can still use them for other stuff like bird watching, feathered and skirted variety ;)
