Hi~

I'm a SingAstro member since 20 mins ago.. (: I was estactic when I chanced upon this club while googling for "Perseid meteor shower". I have a passion for the night sky. I used to be very active in my school's Astronomy Club. Gave lectures on astronomy to the club members, organised weekly star-gazing sessions at Ngee An Poly, etc.. Good old days!

I have to question- To fuel my passion for astronmy, I'l like to have a regular subscription to an astronomy magazine. As they are quite costly, I'll not want to end up buying something irrelevant. Any reccomendations? I would love something that has more asian flavours to it.. (I realised that most astronmy magazines are written for readers in the US, UK so some events they mention are not very relevant for us.)

Thanks!

Hi
Welcome to Singastro.
There are probably some Chinese/HK magazines catering to asian market but the 2 best are still Astronomy and Sky&Telescope. They offer huge discounts if you subscribe to them. There is also another UK one called "Astronomy Now" which usually comes with a CD choked full of videos (as is the UK magazine tradition). One had a TV programme of Patrick Moore when he was hosting his famous programme in the late 50s!
Unfortunately, there are only a few places you can get them locally. Eg Kinokuniya and Borders are sure places. Popular and Times and even the mamashop at Ikea Alexander or SLS may stock it (usually Astronomy only).
Cheers

Subscribe to astronomy technology today. It's online, it's cheap, and it's the best for astro gearheads.

If you wanna read all the astro theories and all the stars mumbo jumbo, get S&T or Astronomy. If you wanna read mainly on astro gears, ATT is the best and cheapest out there!

You can borrow Astronomy & Sky&Tel magazines in the public libraries. A better way to get current info and fuel your passion is to sign up and log into Cloudynights.com and Astromart.com for reviews, forums & classified ads.
