Test Market : Selling Orion 80mm ED [SOLD]

Post by VinSnr »

Since I have finished testing this scope, time to think about selling it.

I bought this scope at a premium price because I didn't want to wait for those months of back orders. Inclusive of shipping and taxes, I paid about $1100 for this scope. I am considering of selling it off at $950.

It's even better than new. I have sorted out all the QC issues (damn, should charge Syntha for this) such as collimation and focuser problems. The collimation was terribly out when I received it and I spent 2 hours on the collimation eyepiece just to shim and align back the collimation. A star test done few days back at Bishan confirmed that the collimation is now dead on. Star test was very good....no pinch optics, with SA better than 1/6 wave. Saturn at 210X showed bands on its surface and even a hint of the crepe ring. Note that this is when Saturn was very close to the half moon few days back. Colour? Not even a hint of it.

The focuser has couple of rough spots when I received it but now it is as smooth as butter. There are no further issues on this scope.

In addition, I will throw in the Orion #7371 tube rings that is meant for this scope for free.

I must be crazy to offer this for sale, but if you can show me that $950 before I change my mind, then this "well-tuned" APO scope is yours.

Another of those "VRGD" (Vincent's Ridiculously Good deals)".
I'm still sore about the LX90 deal I missed. Waiting for him to offer a Nexstar 8i next! Maybe he can make amends by supercharging my ETX, Dr Clay style....

Hope some hardcore fella will buy it...want to see it out more often instead of letting it rot in a display cabinet somewhere....

It will be going to Astromart in 2 days time if no offer here.

I believe those who stay in non-US countries especially those in Europe would snap up this scope. I heard that it was sold for 550 British pounds in UK!

So far there are a few queries here and there buy no confirm buyer. I don't believe my price is expensive for this APO scope and I really hate to sell this back to US or Europe. As usual, I hope to see this around in some local astronomer's hand.

I need to sell this to move onto my next "test scope". Anyway a review for this scope should be up soon.

*UPDATE*

There is a pending offer for this scope by someone for $900. However, so far no transaction has taken place yet....

I will wait for this person for awhile more if not it goes to astromart.

Ok guys, I got an offer from overseas for this scope. Once I agree, he will paypal the money over and there will be no turning back.

I want to absolutely make sure that no one here wants this wonderful scope before I sell it. I am holding back replying his email and guess will reply only tommorrow when I hear nothing from singastro. I rather sell it here to cut the hassle of shipping the scope.

I will put a reduced price of $870 for this APO scope. Comes with the tube rings (a $50 value). If I don't hear from anyone by today....off it goes to the international buyer tommorrow.
