Don't let light pollution stop you

I thought I should post this inspiring Sky & Telescope article link here on what great possibilities there are for urban astronomers like us.

This is especially for newbies who are hesitant to buy a telescope and get into the hobby because of what you may have read about light pollution [LP] and astronomy. It is true that LP washes out the Milky Way and deep sky objects [DSO] but it does not matter if you want to observe the moon, planets, star clusters, double stars and even the brighter DSOs.

Of course we should all fight light pollution for the many reasons but in the meantime, we should make the best out of the situation.

thing is... most towns/cities in the US are far smaller than Singapore (or Manila.. or Jakarta.. or KL)

i mean a city of 500,000 is considered major city over there, but the light pollution is much much less than a place like SG.

If u read the article, u will find observers from New York and London which are much bigger than Singapore (so have worse light pollution) but that has not deterred them.

true i did read that if you stay within 25* of zenith it's still possible to observe...! definitely a lot of good ideas in there...
