Baader multi-purpose coma corrector
Anyone has experience using one with a 20mm or above eyepiece in a F5 reflector? How does it perform?

Hi,
I'm using a Pentax XL 21mm with the MPCC on my F4 Vixen R200SS... look ok in my standard, but you must get the spacing right which is quite troublesome if you got eyepieces of different field stop position. Also, most review said that the MPCC is not good for high magnification (I never test it as I don't use it for high magnification), so I think it still better to just get the Televue Paracorr for visual on fast Newtonian.
Have a nice day.

Thanks guys.
Yes I did read about how it is not suitable for high mag but I intend to use it only on my 28mm UWAN which happens to not require any adaptors to achieve the right spacing. Weixing, how well do you find the MPCC in correcting coma? I can't get the paracorr as the paracorr + UWAN combo will topple my portaball.

Well... we did try out once with the mpcc vs paracorr on the r200ss, and the paracorr gave slightly better optical performance. Compared with mpcc, the paracorr is easier to use too, as Wxg stated.
Some people find that they do not require coma correction on their f/5 dob, but for some eyepices and targets on my f/5 dob, I find the paracorr improves the view, and I do use it. Do note that your view may vary.

Hi,
Hmm... can't remember how good does the coma correction visually on my F4, but the coma correction look good on the image I took.
By the way, I can pass you my MPCC for you to test lor... I don't need it at the moment as my scope is in separated mode...
Please note that my MPCC is the old version, so it cannot insert into the drawtube of the focuser. As a result, some scope might not reach focus. Let me know.
Have a nice day.
You mean the distance is correct when you screw in the MPCC on your 28mm UWAN eyepiece filter thread??acc wrote:Thanks guys.

Since it is just used for the 28mm eyepiece I would think the Baader corrector suffice as the eye will not be able to resolve the Airy Disc. Since there will be some spherical aberration from the corrector, it will not really impact the image on-axis since it is beyond the eye's ability to discern the difference.
For higher magnification and frequent changes of eyepieces, Paracorr is recommended.
