Chia, thanks for keeping politics off your last three posts and please continue to keep it that way.
Now, I can't help but notice that you must have done lots of research to find out what harm lasers can do. But my own reading also shows that there are means to make lasers safe for entertainment, e.g., through use of appropriate types and power of laser, enforcing minimum viewing distances and laser scanning (whereby a high power laser beam is optically split into light sheets or multiple beams of light to dilute its power). Over long distances, the laser's power will be attenuated by beam divergence and scattered by dust and humidity in the air. Laser shows have been in Singapore for a few decades and I have personally been in shows where laser beams were scanned into the audience. When was the last time anyone was harmed by one?
FYI, laser shows are regulated by NEA (
http://app2.nea.gov.sg/data/cmsresource ... 899106.pdf).
Personally I find the laser show crass and spoils the skyline. If I have my way, at the minimum, the scan height should be raised so no one is bothered by beams shining into their homes. But if you are so concerned about safey, it will be more productive to write to NEA than to raise unnecessary alarm here. If you do write to them, please keep us updated here...
