Which US dealer did you buy from ? "International Sales" handling charge maybe ? I know of some firms that charge that.

IMHO, the direct warranty with Celestron is automatically void since Celestron dealers aren't allowed to sell to countries which already has an authorized dealer in the first place.

In this case, your warranty is most probably with the dealer themselves. They will usually keep your purchase details on file and refer to that for warranty related matters. Did you check with the dealer on how warranty issues are to be settled (if ever required) ?

For example, I once asked OPT (Oceanside Photo and Telescope) about warranty issues related to their TeleVue scopes. They said that if I do buy the scope through them, Televue will not be obligated to honour the warranty since the warranty offered is for within the US only. So, in my case, my warranty is under OPT themselves and not TeleVue. Whatever warranty matters to settle, I will have to go through OPT. I cannot go directly to TeleVue. This may mean additional shipping/handling charges if my scope ever needs to get serviced.

i.e

me -> OPT -> TeleVue -> OPT -> me

vs

me -> TeleVue -> me

I think the same may just apply in your case.

HI
Do share your experiences on this purchase on another thread once you have the chance to use the scope. eg. bought from whom? service good? how long before they arrived, and maybe a picture of 2 of your scope.
Don't forget to update your equipment list, too!

From experience, warranty for Meade and Celestron are usually by the dealer since the 2 companies don't officially support countries outside of the US directly. Hwoever, they do manage on a case by case basis..

3)they provide online tracking of your item so u don't haf to worry about shipping

hi all....jus to inform u i just called the bank and it turns out the amt deducted was 810USD instead of wat was reflected on the UPS tax invoice of 846.70USD...i guess USP must haf made a mistake

aniwae...u guys might wanna know the xchange rate used by POSB bank for such transactions is damn high.According to my bankbook calculations, for both shipping and purchase, they used 1USD = 1.74SGD.
so u guys might wanna take note of this when purchasing from abroad.

but overall is still cheaper than singapore la

Yes. They do appear to be quite a good alternative source for Celestron stuff.
Best of all they accept VISA and willing to ship to Singapore.
But they sell all their stuff at RRP , so you don't get any discount at all. :cry:
Else would have ordered my 8" scope by now!

haha...eh pls la....take my example...my ota costs 1600SGD in total whereas buy from AStrosci will cost 2480SGD exclusive of GST. i already saved aobut 600-700 dollars. that is "discount"enough already.
what's more warranty is still valid according to an e-mail i sent to them.
