Thanks guys for the encouraging comments! @Cataclysm: Still havent got my act together - perfection is when I can get the elusive 3 to 4 min subs and reduce the weight to 6 kg... must practice more on alignment. @Starfinder: I am obsessed with weight and use my kitchen scale to weigh all my astro ge...

Vixen Polarie -rough polar alignment for Southern Hemisphere

Here are my steps to get rough polar alignment in the southern hemisphere which allowed me to get 1 min subs from a 270 mm focal length without further drift alignment. I do not own a Polar Scope for the Vixen Polarie and therefore rely on latitude and compass adjustments and drift alignment method....

Re: astro shops in taipei?

Digging up an old thread, I'm heading to the ROC sometime in October so wondering if anyone has recommendations for some Astro-shopping? Hi Mariner, I only managed to visit one astro shop - the one that Weixing pointed out - M&T Optics. http://www.telescopes.com.tw/ Its located in the town area...

Re: Possible Nova in Sagittarius (Nova Sagittarii 2012 No. 3

Thank goodness you had taken the photos so that they could at least 'see' it for themselves... I stand...

Re: A handy Visual aid - Field of view FOV calculator

Hi Alfred, the FOV simulator helps me make a list of what are reasonable imaging targets for my Borg 45ED. But the downside is that I also use it to scout for scopes that will give a better FOV which could contribute to GAS (aka gear acquisition syndrome). I kinda regret selling the Megrez 90 cos us...
