WTB: CG-5 mount or similar
I am looking for a suitable mount for a 5" Maksutov-Newtonian (MN-56), which weighs about 13 pounds. Probably a CG-5 equivalent equatorial mount. Preferably with at least one axis motor-drive and enough clearance to be used in Singapore. The MN-56's tube ring has one 3/8-16 hole and two unthrea...

trying to figure at what position of the sun will it cause such an odd illumination Hi Airconvent, Well, when I was looking at the Moon, I could certainly make out the rounded shape of the Earth's shadow cast on its bottom right, as you may be able to tell from the photos above. When looking at the...

Photo of eclipse
I saw and photographed the partial eclipse earlier this evening. The sky was hazy and partly cloudy during the eclipse, which was from around 7.30pm to 8.30pm, with mid eclipse at 8.03pm. Fortunately, it was sufficiently clear to view and photograph the event. Here is a photo taken during mid eclips...

Thanks JY for your input! I have always liked binoculars for astronomy. Some of my most enjoyable views of the skies were through my 25x100mm Chinese binoculars (which is also sold under the Oberwerk brand). I remember seeing curtains of light and dark in the Milky Way around Sagittarius on one very...

Views on Canon IS binoculars?
Has anyone experienced using the Canon image stabilization binoculars?
I'm thinking of perhaps getting a 15x50 or 18x50 model and would like views on them. Tks.

tanguan photographed it http://www.angelfire.com/space2/tgtan/Pluto.htm Ok, saw it. Tan TG's astrophotos are really very good. What is amazing is that most of the deep sky images taken with his Canon 300, e.g. Eagle Nebula, galaxies M65/M66, Virgo cluster, Horsehead Nebula, were done from Singapore...

Has anyone seen Pluto?
I wonder if any member of Singastro has seen Pluto. About 2 years ago at Telok Sari, I "goto-ed" my LX-90 to Pluto. I saw a few faint objects, and was not sure if one of them was Pluto. It is about Mag 13.9, and is supposed to be visible in an 8" scope at dark sky sites. Apparently, t...
