@Thomas: I am a Newtonian user like you! I have a Celestron Omni XLT 150. I consider Jupiter as the "beginner's delight", probably the easiest object to spot after moon. Once you have sorted out your collimation, you will amost certainly be able to get a good view of the planet. I am usual...

Hi all, thanks for your comments.

FYI, I am using a Celestron Omni XLT 150 Newtonian.

Just curious - has'nt any manufacturer come up with there a powered finderscope with Telrad like setting circles? Based on your responses, I guess that will address the limitations of telrad in LP skies.

Telrad Finder

I am looking for a device/aid to help locate DSOs. I have read some good views about the Telrad Finder but also found a few comments that it may not be suitable in light polluted skies. I wish to know how useful (or effective) the Telrad Finder is for use in Singapore or are there better alternative...

@Remus and others: I understand that there are remote (wired) shutter release devices available that also have functions like exposure time (including in bulb mode), interval and number of exposures. Nikon does not produce such a device for D5000 (for this model, they just have a simple no frills re...

DIY Goto Mount?

Is it possible to DIY a Goto mount. For example can drive motors on the mount with a laptop (having the necessary control software) and made to point to a location which the computer directs it to?

This question is purely out of curiosity...and (perhaps) future reference.
