Surprisingly, the cloud invasion ended dramatically and the southern sky cleared pretty well (at least in the central/western parts) around 10pm as wind blew the clouds away. Managed to get a view of the southern cross, and a rather faint jewel box briefly from my 'private' observation deck on the M...

Hi, I'm not sure why some say that EQ mount is difficult to use. Yes, it take longer to setup, but not difficult to use... also, it can make star hopping a lot easier for beginner by making use of the RA and DEC axis when finding object using star chart. By the way, don't need to drift alignment fo...

Managed to get my first view of Jupiter and its 4 moons early this morning just before the clouds moved in. At 150x I think I saw a band in the top half (i.e. it appeared in the bottom half in my telescope). Is this where the band is supposed to be located? Is there supposed to be another band which...

Congrats Bharat!! Welcome to the world of 'weird' EQ mount syndrome and set everything up and clouds roll in!! haha! Read up on aligning processes and it's all practise. Thanks for your tips, Tim. After a couple of viewing sessions, I felt at a good accurate polar alignment could make viewing much ...

Omni XLT 150 Newt
Finally got my new Celestron Omni XLT150 Newtonian! After some struggle, assembled the tripod-mount-scope on the top deck of a multistorey car park next to my block just in time to watch Venus before it disappeared behind trees. Last evening was a bit cloudy and may not have been the best for star g...

How to capture Big Dipper on DSLR?
Inspired by some of the astrophotography pictures posted on this site, I decided to make an attempt in my own small way! With my Nikon D5000 mounted on a tripod (with the 18-55mm lens), I tried to shoot the Big Dipper. Alas! all that I managed to capture was an illuminated sky with the star appearin...
