Heh.... been busy at work lah and can't spend time at home editing pics thanks to YOG. Prelim shots of andromeda with my standard DSLR lenses come nowhere near orly's shots though :( Will post the finished shots once I get time in front of my PC at home (which might be the weekend or next week, than...

Chris: Settings? :)
Looks like your FOV was much wider than mine (using 50mm prime) so you managed to get the darker parts of the sky as well as the milky way.
Chould have pushed to show the milky way glow but thought the black background looked less "processed" :)

Random Dots: First try with DSS

Took some pics yesterday night to take advantage of the good weather :) D700, 50mm f1.8 AF-D, mounted on cheapie camera tripod, no tracking, naturally. Also first try with DSS today! Please advise on how to improve :) Scorpio with M7 and Butterfly cluster http://lh4.ggpht.com/_VYQb44pB0rA/TFmALL_io0...

Thanks for all your advice! Thinking about it, a 6in device with a 3 in obstruction has the same light gathering ability as a 112mm refractor but with significant light loss from the airy disc into the diffraction rings, together with a "slow" f9 ratio. While it sounds nice to own an RC as...

Hi Tim,
Thanks for your reply! I tried again this morning and was able to get a slow but eventually complete download. Looks like the server had issues last night!

Need Help: Unable to download DSS

Thanks in advance for the help: can someone either email me or put up the file online so I can d/l it? I can't seem to get it from the DSS website: the download just fails to send any data!

I'm now seriously tempted! But do you guys think its a good scope if I want to do some astrophoto (with full frame DSLR) as well as visual observation? Worried that 6" with a 45% central obstruction might be a bit too dim. Alternative is a 8" f4 imaging newtonian from Astro-tech with finde...

Astro-Tech 6" f/9 Ritchey-Chrétien Astrograph @ USD299

See Link: http://www.astronomics.com/main/product.asp/catalog_name/Astronomics/category_name/U5QNWB3RKWWL8N3EL99F9DX9A0/product_id/AT6RC What do you guys think? Sounds really cheap for a 6", RC to boot ( but large central obstruction, 45-50%, I think) That's for OTA only, of course. And of cour...
