Re: M20 (Trifid Nebula)

Hi Bernard,
I would not have thought it would’ve been clear to do imaging last night. How clear was it?

Re: Astrophotography from a roof terrace

Hi Bernard,
Your images look promising for more processing. I’d suggest that you do colour balancing in GIMP to get rid of the green. It’ll look a lot better after you do this.

Re: Astrophotography from a roof terrace

Hi Bernard, Very nice images. I'd actually venture to guess that it's really Bortle 7 to 8 at you location rather than Bortle 9 from your images. I'd suggest that you start stacking more than 30 subs (1 hour at 30 s is 120 images, 3 hours is 360 images) and then process offline. Looking at your data...

Re: Best weather app for AP in Singapore

Hi Bernard, It looked like midnight was clear: aaa.jpeg So was it still clear when you finished at midnight? If it was, then I think using the satellite photos may be the best method for determining whether it'll be clear for imaging. It also looks like it would've been clear for a few more hours af...

Re: Best weather app for AP in Singapore

I see stars as of 20:00 hrs!!!! Background is still pretty bright, but that's to be expected, I guess since Singapore is the most light polluted country in the world.

Re: Best weather app for AP in Singapore

Hey Bernard,
There’s a good chance that it’ll be clear enough tonight. This is the satellite image at 5:40 pm today:

If I do a simple projection of the path of the clear sky to the East of Singapore over the next few hours in my mind, it looks like it’ll be clear.

Re: Best weather app for AP in Singapore

Hi Bernard,

Looks like it started clearing at 2 am this morning. This is the satellite photo at 3 am

I was up at around 6:45 am this morning and there were patches of clear sky. Large enough to do something.

So, there was a chance :)

Re: Best weather app for AP in Singapore

Hmmm, I only see cloudy skies although there's no precipitation tonight ... Screenshot 2024-05-01 at 7.13.22 PM.jpg I guess I'll have to have some experience to gauge whether the sky will be clear or not. Thanks for the heads up that ASIAir is able to do PA without seeing Polaris. That's something n...

Re: Best weather app for AP in Singapore

Hi Bernard, Thanks for sharing. I'm curious how did you anticipate that the skies would be good? I was looking at the weather predictions on Monday and didn't see any clear sky predictions. Also, have you marked the ground previously for Polar Alignment or have a semi-permanent setup ? 3 hours isn't...

Re: My Deep Sky Astrophotography

Hi Leslie, Thanks for your information. That's most useful. My equipment should arrive in the first week of June unless the boat sinks :) It'll be a good time to try setting my stuff up. Hopefully my mounts' pointing modeling at latitude 1 deg works so I don't need to do precise Polar Alignment. I g...
