Tube dobs are definately better due to convenience of setup but large truss dobs are a good compromise. Aperture is important for galaxy hunting! Hence, Mr Au's Ultima is best... easy to setup and accurate goto. Problem solved.

I don't think its right to say that atmospheric conditions will affect larger scopes more - it should affect all scopes equally. We only eyeballed the laser to the center of the primary. Need to at least accurately dot in the primary to get better collimation before I can conclude anything.
