And is collimating so tough? I hear tons of stories from ppl saying its pretty easy to ppl saying they sold their reflector coz they couldn't collimate it properly. Is it a breeze or nightmare? Collimating is actually quite easy, -once- you have a little practice. So don't be put off from reflector...

IceAngel I agree with Zong... don't fall into the hi-mag trap. The 5mm is way too much power, and would be useful for the moon at most. The 10mm and 25mm eyepieces are good choices. Throw in a 32mm or 40mm plossol, and you would have a good range of magnifications to use with your first scope. cheer...

My most memorable scope would be my first scope, an Edu-Science refractor I bought from Toys R Us way back in 1983. Wanted to catch Halley's Comet but I never managed to find it. The scope showed Jupiter as a sotong ball, but I was impressed nonetheless. Never did much astro viewing as the mount was...

We hope to finish the scope by the next new moon. Only wish the skies would co-operate for once. Zong, thanks for the interest but we are assembling the scope in my spare room which will be rather cramped with the 3 of us and all the scope parts. Will be posting updates of our work progress here ins...

Is Bigger Always Better?

For those who would like to contract aperture fever, read the following extract from the Nov issue of Sky and Telescope: ... the difference between a 6" and 12" can be the difference between seeing just the Meisser galaxies in the Virgo Cluster and seeing an additional 30 or 40 NGC galaxie...

16" ATM Project Update 1

Hi all After an eight-month delay, most of the parts for our 16.1” ATM project have finally arrived safely in Singapore. Discovery Telescopes whom we purchased the telescope from had been extremely tardy in delivery. With the benefit of hindsight, we would have bought the parts from other sources. N...
