The Backyard Astronomer's Guide - Ordering from Amazon

Post by byang »

Hi Everyone, I am contemplating to do a small group buy of the above from Amazon. With 4 books ordered, the shipping to Singapore is free so each book should cost only USD 34.04. However, I have no prior experience of ordering books from Amazon and would like to request for feedback by those who have done so to see if they have encountered any problems before (eg. Dented edge, bent cover, torn pages?) and how Amazon responded. Thanks in advance!

I believe their books are shipped direct from warehouse in UK, not "molested" by retail customers.
Expect 4-6weeks waiting time. Longer than that apply for refund.

For shipping damage, I've seen an extreme case of postman folding a wide book to stuff into letterbox @ hardwarezone forum. It was so tight-fit that he cannot pull it out of letterbox.
You shouldn't be turn-off by such incident, not every order end up like this.

Fantastic book to get. No regrets getting the hard-cover version when there was a store-wide 25% Takashimaya Kinokuniya sale.

If newcomers can read this book from start to finish, a lot of their questions will be answered.

Thanks to the assistance from Toa Payoh Public Library, officially submitted my recommendation for this book (among other good astro books) to NLB. Hopefully can see these books on library bookshelves soon.
