Venus and Jupiter

Post by Solidlight »

Hi guys,

Hope y'all are aware of Venus and Jupiter coming close together these few nights! I have yet to deploy my scope and I will do so soon!

Been keeping watch since Sunday...yesterday evening the 2 planets resembled a binary star :)

Unfortunately with the heavy rain now, must keep fingers crossed for evening

It appears Venus is now brighter than Jupiter. I tried to see it at around 120x but appears as a bright disc. How many times mag should be used for venus?

Venus has always been brighter than Jupiter. You'll only need around 70x to 100x to see the fat crescent phase.

Yeah like what Mariner said, Venus is always brighter than Jupiter , due to closeness to Earth and its thick reflective atmosphere.

Are you sure you're looking at the right thing? At 110x the image of Venus should be somewhat smaller than this image here but the crescent should be quite obvious.

Even at around 80x-90x I can usually resolve the crescent!

Not sure why it's just a yellow disc for you, but you should try again haha!
Thanks.
