Venus M45 event @ TPY TOWN PARK tonight - 3 April 2012

Post by Gary »

Hi Friends,

Weather permitting, Clifford and I will be observing and photographing tonight's Venus M45 conjunction. All are welcome, please feel free to join us with or without any equipment.

Date: Tuesday 3 April 2012
Time: 7.30 pm onwards
Location: Toa Payoh TOWN PARK (NOT the usual sidewalk location outside TPY library)
Google Map location of the Town Park --> http://goo.gl/Z0E4y

We will be located at the circular structure known as Wisteria Trellis as shown the town park map below. It is near the iconic Viewing Tower:

We will be bringing big and small binoculars and a refractor for photography and observation. I will be bringing my porta mount along (manual, non-tracking). Feel free to use it for photography and just bring along your refractor and DSLR and related accessories. Clifford will have 1st priority to use of course. :)

Check my twitter for latest updates in the event I can't update this thread in time:

In any case, wherever you are tonight, have fun observing and photographing Venus M45! Don't wait until 2020! :)

Clear Skies!

Venus still very close to 7 Sisters tonight. Within 2 deg fov. Interesting orientation. Like a inverted question mark with super bright Venus as the dot of it.

Sky still looking decently blue now. Go for it tonight!

Hi Davegn. Most probably not. Body still aching a bit from last saturday's and last night's sidewalk session. Also resting for potential sidewalk session this coming long weekend. :)

Should be observing Venus M45 tonight privately with a few friends near my place. :)

I managed to photograph the conjunction between Venus and the Pleiades last night and tonight.

Here are 4 photos (compressed for uploading); two taken on each night.

No prizes for guessing which one is Venus.

Taken with a Canon EOS60D and a Tamron 75-300mm lens at 75mm and 300mm, mounted on a photo tripod. Approx 1 second exposure, at f/8 or f/11, ISO 1600.

Some of the photos were cropped.
