Another celestial event captured. (4) Vesta passes by Leo Triplet.

(4) Vesta is the brightest asteroid, which happens to transit the field of Leo Triplet galaxy group around 2021-June-11. Difficulty to capture due to the low altitude after astronomical twilight ends -- the Spring stars are leaving the night skies stage.

After adding color info borrowed from a random nice photo of the field:

The faintest object I have ever taken a photo of. The asteroid Gonggong (共工). At magnitude 21.5, it turns out much more difficult than I expected, barely discernable from 4x5min-exposure with a 20' telescope at the Bortle 1 site.

Finally, the exposures of 7P/ visiting the Helix were done this morning. But was struggling with image processing. The end result for now.

2021-6-16 evening

Moon travels in the Leo, and outshines the sickle. The thin clouds just did not go away. But perhaps they actually add to the otherwise dull background.

The moon image is of course a superimposed one. The huge dynamic range of the super bright object would hardly show any details otherwise.

Venus steadily gains brightness. Now at -3.9. It easily creates its halo in the colorful evening cloud just after sunset.

In Dec, it will brighten up to -4.7, which is even twice as bright as it is now.

Too bright to have any good friend. Aha!

Mars on a steady path towards M44, and will make a ~3-day-long transit through the star cluster around June 23. Stargazers wish for clear skies!
