Medium-wide fields 2020

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Three clusters in Gemini.

NGC2158 was once thought to be a globular cluster. It is now known to be an intermediate-age, metal-poor open cluster that is a member of the old thin disk population. Est 2billion years old!

Any other open cluster older than this?

Andromeda galaxy

Big mistake not dithering the subexposures -- terrible walking noise patterns in the end.

Looked like both of us were doing the same thing last night!
Very nice pics from last night, especially M45 and the hyades cluster. Great work!

I was indeed hesite to go out to shoot, coz very tired after a days work.

But the clear skies were not to miss.

Back home processing the sub exposures and found out I made a mistake. I should have used dithering (either manual or auto) to mitigate the terrible walking noise patterns from my poor M50 mirrorless cam. Or I should have used my cooled astro cam.

Need to rework the post processing if I get another chance to shoot. Or just move on to other targets and come back to these few for a revenge at some true dark site when the borders open next year.

Yea walking noise is so terrible, kinda destroys the image making all that time spend wasted. I learnt that I rather spend a bit of time doing manual dithering and lose out a few subs than having that walking noise in the image.

NGC253. a nearby galaxy yet difficult for the small refractor while the target was behind a slightly hazy sky
