Another Astro-related Talk at the Science Centre

Here is the place for the admins or moderators to do their annoucements. Or, if you have bought a new scope and want the whole world to know, do it here. Basically this is the place for any astro first-hand news.

Another Astro-related Talk at the Science Centre

Post by Airconvent »

Just passing the info here at the request of the Science Centre...
From what I see, its not on actual stars and galaxies but more on applications to business ops. ..

SYNOPSIS

SPACE AGE TECHNIQUES CAN HELP BUSINESSES
Professor Graeme G WILKINSON, Dean of Applied Computing Sciences at the University of Lincoln, has been researching satellite surveillance
techniques for over 20 years. He believes that businesses in
Lincolnshire and elsewhere can use satellite images from space to
improve their performance. He encourages businesses (farmers in
particular) to investigate the potential uses of environmental
monitoring from space with the large number of satellites now orbiting
above. Professor Wilkinson will talk about techniques for using satellite
photographs to make maps of landscapes. While already achieving
impressive results, more research on (some of) the methods used in
enhancing and exploiting satellite pictures is needed.
