CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Putting up a skyglow map of Singapore

Post by QED »

Dear astrophotographers,

We all know how bad the skyglow (or light pollution, as you may call it, in Singapore is). In the hope of finding better places to astrophotograph in Singapore, my friends and I are doing a project, in which we'll be using DSLRs/mirroless cameras, to take photos of the night sky, pointed at altair-alshain-tarazed system, after which we'll be analyzing the photos to determine the skyglow in that particular area. However, with just the three of us, there's not really that much of Singapore we can cover. We thus need your help! Basically, if you have a DSLR/mirrorless camera, all you have to do is to take a picture of the alshain-altair-tarazed system in RAW, and send it to us. To maintain a level of consistency, try to take your photos from 9pm to 12 midnight. You may sign up here at http://goo.gl/forms/sx0GfPnaFE.
Here are the recommended settings:
80mm effective length (~55mm on APS-C sensors, 40mm on 4/3" sensors) [This can be changed to your liking, just try to make the stars mentioned below fit just nicely in your frame]
ISO 200
f/5.0
13s Exposure

Stars Chosen: Altair, Alshain, Tarazed. (Aquila) [Essentially, it would be best if you take a photo such that all of them fit nicely]

Please take the photos in RAW, as much as you can. Lastly, as for the photo submission, please upload your photos onto the dropbox folder here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wj0uuf95j9j4 ... wTW4a?dl=0.
After you've submitted your photos, please indicate the details for the photo submitted here : http://goo.gl/forms/pqqzFK9ZSp
Lastly,thanks for helping out!
