Horsehead and Rosette in HA narrowband

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Horsehead and Rosette in HA narrowband

Post by ivan »

After 2 months of haze, last night's skies presented an opportunity for me to do some equipment testing as well as astrophotography trial shots.

Here's a 5 min unprocessed H-alpha narrowband image of the horsehead nebula. Unfortunately, I only managed one sub as the clouds came in just as I completed setting up and getting the system to work. Nevertheless, it was a great feeling watching the stars twinkling in the haze-free sky, and to finally first light some newly-purchased equipment that was sitting in my dry cabinet for the longest time.

Tak FS60CB, ZEQ25GT, SBIG ST8300M. 7nm baader HA filter.

1x300sec, no binning, no calibration frames.

Clear skies to all!

Thanks Junwei! Good to practise setting up once in awhile too, lest skills get rusty xD

Last night's clarity was even better! With everything up and going, I managed to grab much more data. Here's 3 hours on the horsehead and 30 minutes on the rosette:

Images were taken from toa payoh central. Equipment used is the same as above.

Thanks for looking!
