Mounting Two telescopes

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Mounting Two telescopes

Post by kimo »

Hello Experts,

I want to mount Two imaging telescopes on Orion Atlas EQ-G. I don't like eveytime changing telescope for imaging. Please let me know your Ideas. I don't know if it will overload the mount for imaging?

Main Telescope 1: 12lbs , focal length 945mm **
Main Telescope 2: 10lbs . focal length 420mm *
Telescope 3: 6lbs Guide scope.
ALL plate and 2 finders : 3lbs
CCD and others : 2lbs

Mount: orion Atlas EQ-G
Thanks.

33 lbs little bit more, should be controlled at 44 lbs x 70% = 30 lbs or less. This will ensure a stable system.

Need to lose weight:
1)do not need additional guide scope
2)do not need finder.(You can use the MDL pinpoint features to assist (very accurate))
3)Use the OAG on the 65Q

Can be reduced to about 27 lbs or so.

I used to have ideas of mounting 2 scopes, after trying out I found it to be a waste of time. You can't image via 2 scopes and 2 CCDs on the same mount. I now use the Mach1GTO and GP-D2 side by side instead. This has doubled the amount of objects that can be captured in the same night.

Either way, stop using heavy guidescopes. 50mm finders are far better.

Two telescopes.

80mm F/3.3 267mm for wide field imaging (self made)
C6- F5 - 750mm for Galaxy and planetary neb. telescope can change when needed.

Two CCD camera were used. one for Guiding and another for Imaging .

Test Image IC405 were taken with 80mm f/3.3

Here is C6- F/5 test M3 GBCl - CCD not cooling yet.
