Supernova 2004eo in Delphinus

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Supernova 2004eo in Delphinus

Post by tanguan2001 »

Continuing to try out my modified Canon 300D. Here's a supernova from last night. Focus was bad - my CF card failed and I had to replace it and in the meantime the focus had drifted, probably due to temperature change.

This supernova (2004eo) is currently at 15.3 - just past maximum.

Regards,
TG

HI TG

That's a nice image of supernova considering the magnitude.

It seems that you are always pushing your equipment limtation to new heights.
What is the duration of exposure to get to this magnitude? Guided?

Matthew,

Thanks. Subject to experiment, but I believe the limit from Singapore with this equipment should be in the mag 18-19 range. This image was only 13 x 60s (unguided), so not much exposure time. Also it was badly focused, which costs sensitivity. At a darker site, deeper images should be possible. After all, with a webcam, from a dark site, mag 19 is possible.

Will keep you guys posted - took image of M33 last night.

Hi
Can see your image now. I'm wondering....why do people who image SN tend to show their images as negative ?

TG,
I am interested to know how you modified you camera. Did you have a website to guide you through the process like in Terry Lovejoy site? I owned 300D too. So far, I have just dare to upload a hacked firmware to increase it's ISO number to 3200 and mirror lockup.

I hope to see more of you work posted soon.

Thanks in advance.

Rich,

SN tend to be quite dim and negative images show dim details better. A small black dot on a white background shows better than the other way around.

CK,

Yes, I followed the instructions on Terry Lovejoy's site. His photos are out of focus, though! I did take photos of my mod and will post them on my website when I have the time. First image taken with the mod was this...
