SOLD : Orion 80ED Apochromatic Refractor

Post by Airconvent »

Hi all
After Singastro 2004, my previous big aperture bite mark is acting up again...
Thinking of selling off my apo refractor to finance the new 8" scope.

In case you don't know, the Orion 80ED is the most affordable Apochromatic refractor available today designed for astronomy. (Celestron has a smaller ED model for spotting scope use.)

Here is the website for info :

http://www.telescope.com/shopping/produ ... uctID=6306

It provides true colour free views of the moon and other bright objects. I personally used it to view the Veil Nebula in Mersing...great scope and extremely portable. I have it packed all the time and it can be a grab and go scope.

For registered users , you can read Vincent Senior's review here :

http://www.singastro.org/viewtopic.php?t=892

Else can try here :

I'm selling only the OTA package as follows :
1. 80ED Apo OTA c/w with 2" to 1.25" adapter, Crayford focusser, built-in dewshield
2. Nice extra "padded" Sling bag to carry the scope.
3. No Diagonal or finder included. (as was the original package)

The scope is in excellent condition and was even collimated by Vincent Senior previously. If you can't afford the thousands of dollars to buy a similar aperture Televue or Takahshi, this scope is ideal for you. Good for astro photography too.

Selling price is $950 negotiable. if you agree to the asking price, I will throw in the following :
1. 20mm long eye relief 66 deg FOV eyepiece
2. Brand new un-used Tube rings if you don't intend to use the scope's tripod screw hole. These are worth around $100 if bought separately.

Attached are some pictures of it (OTA and the carry bag).
Please PM me if you are interested.
Thanks for reading
Rich

About this test market post... I'm not a avid forum poster so how does this works?
Does it means you really wants to sell your scope or just asking for a price but no selling?

oh...I'm selling alright. The only way I will move to an 8" is to sell off my current stuff first (puo fu chen chou?). I said test market cos I want to see if people willing to pay the asking price. If price not ideal, I intend to continue keeping the scope....also feel shiok to own an apo scope..heh heh

Anyway, prices are slighly negotiable, so make an offer if anyone is interested. cheers.

My advice.. keep the scope with you.. there would be times when you would want a grab and go scope and this 80mm Apo would be exellent..

another reason for keeping it is that on singastro, it is not easy to sell such an ota.. I remember Vincent (Snr) was trying to sell it some 4 months back and despite reducing the price, hardly anyone made an offer....

What happened to you ETX105.. have you disposed it yet..

good luck..

I still have my ETX90 as a grab and go scope. I'm keeping the ETX105 for now as I still need my goto! Unless my new 8" is a goto, would be very unlikely I will let it go anytime soon...
I will see who is interested first for the Orion. Its really very cheap for an APO scope...just need for someone who can appreciate it like me...heh heh
of course they can always pay $2000-$3000 and buy a Tak or a Televue but for so much less money, you get close to the performance of these scopes, so why not ?
