Nice shot Charlie...well composed and I like the way it wedges between the buildings...not easy for me to take such shots as I don't normally roam around Singapore at 4am in the morning!
Never saw Orion in this way before!
BTW, I was told by Vincent Snr that 8 sec is long enough for the star to trail, so how did you manage to take one the shot with "clean" stars?

I think what VinSnr was refering is 8 sec through the scope's objectives...for my shots, i just leave the CP4500 on the bench and click away~

By the way, i made an adapter similiar to what someone has done in one of the YahooGroups post (i think CC put the link..), now my CP4500 can do up to 5mins Bulb mode with a normal cable release (cant afford S$140 for the Nikon electronic cable release which does nothing much)!
Will test it on field after my exams!

Hi! Guys have you decided where are we going on sat ( 1-11-2003 ) if the whether is good
Just now i went to Ama Keng ( west side ) and i could see sky fill with stars very happy
So lets pray that this coming ( 1-11-2003 ) sky will be clear no matter where we are !!@!!@
Most probably it'll be at Dempsey Rd where it's easily accessible by all. Even if the skies at Dempsey aren't as dark as Changi, I would still prefer Dempsey as long as CSN is on as this is the place where we can meet and socialise with many other fellow astronomers (and their scopes) in Singastro.

Hi Charlie,
Now that's an interesting way to take astrophotos....a naked digital camera!
I've never done this before...maybe I'll try it.
Do post some pics on your setup and how to built this homemade adapter..
I also cannot afford $140 for the cable release remote, else would have made an offer for Chuang Yee's remote cable module...
thanks!

Had fun too. But that was several nights ago. Was focusing blind as it appeared far too small for my lcd to focus. Here're my lesser than average shots.

Usually around 10pm and on (keeping in mind that the current pattern is 'clear skies only after 12am'). But if you want to, we can go at around 8/9pm first and see if we'll be lucky to meet any other early guys there.

Hi,
What scope are you using? I noticed some colour fringing which should not happen unless you use a lower quality eyepiece or a short FL achromat or took Saturn low in the horizon.
For focussing, Sam Chng (now in BMT) thought me a technique to help on this. Make use of your maximum optical and digital zoom on your camera. It may look pixelated but should be large enough for you to focus. Once done, you can switch back to optical zoom only for the improved quality.

cheers!

If sky is clear, normally we will stay very late, say 3am, while others may stay overnight. But if you need to go to Malaysia on Sunday morning, I guess your observations would be limited to midnight?
