Hi ,
Check out this guy who apparently took photos of Mars and then stitched it together to get a full pic. This is the first time I have heard an amatuer astronomer do it. Maybe those who have taken lots of Mars pic and check their database and do the same? Maybe your images would be clearer?
Incidently, he used a Celestron 14" SCT!! Do remember to label the key features if you are doing it...

Anyway, I think Mars is now too far to be spectacular as far a imaging is concerned now.
