laser collimation is only good as a quick fix to let you continue visual observation. if you rotate the laser collimator, there is a high chance you can see the red dot circling a point on the primary mirror. you have to use a cheshire for the job. the 6 screws behind the primary mirror. as hardware...

maybe you can try the moon. look at the craters along the terminator (the shadow cutting across the moon) shadows of the craters along this area makes the moon a good object to look at. at least that is the brightest object to look at during this hazy period.

try climbing mount kinabalu, had heard of very dark skies there.
